About the Wiki
  1. How often should I check the wiki? I would recommend checking the wiki regularly-once or twice a week. You should make a point to visit the wiki site if you have been absent. It has important information about the units we are covering, due dates/deadlines, etc.
  2. Where can I find information about the different units we are covering? The Unit Home page has a list of all of the units that will be covered. Each of the individual unit pages contain the various handouts and resources for a particular unit.
  3. Are grades posted on the wiki? No, the wiki is not secure enough to post grades on. Please contact me if you would like to know your grade/more information about grades.

About GoogleDocs/Google Accounts
  1. What is GoogleDocs? GoogleDocs has similar programs to Microsoft office but they are available for free and are online. That means you can access your documents from any computer. Go to GoogleDocs and watch their introductory video to learn more about how it works.
  2. Why do I need a GoogleDocs account? Having a GoogleDocs account allows you to access your files from any computer, easily share them with anyone else who has GoogleDocs and you don't have to worry about losing your usb key or forgetting to print something at home. For the purposes of this class I will often share documents with students through GoogleDocs and have students submit assignments to me on GoogleDocs.
  3. Do I need to create a Google (gmail) email address? I require students to create a GoogleDocs account, but you don't need a Google (gmail) address in order to do so. However, if students don't have an email address that they regularly check or an email address at all, I would highly suggest they create a Google email address. I do on occasion email students and I wouldn't want them to miss a communication.
  4. How do I submit assignments on GoogleDocs? In the top right corner of a GoogleDoc is a tiny "share" button. If you pull down the tab and select the first option "share" it will pop up a page where you can type in the email addresses of who you'd like to share with. Simply type in mine (lrivard@trsd.net) and hit done. When I open my GoogleDocs I will see your assignment in my list.
  5. How will I know when you graded my assignment? I will change the name of the document and put graded in front of it. For example if your document was named French Revolution paper you would know I graded it when the title says GRADED - French Revolution.
  6. Can I sync the Google calendars on the wiki with my own Google calendar? Yes! This is an excellent thing to do because then you can set-up email or text alerts for when you has assignments coming up. In order to do this simply go to the calendar for your class period and hit the +Google calendar button at the bottom right corner of the calendar. You will then be taken through the steps of syncing calendars.
